I'm A Geek And Proud Of It

People have said I'm hard to shop for...but I've noticed that there's certain gifts I almost always like: geeky stuff. Get me a weird gadget or some geeky toy, and I'm a happy camper. Coolness is overrated...geekiness is in!

@misseye2eye got me these things from ThinkGeek recently and I love it! The vintage looking phone is my new bluetooth handset (very practical)...and the orange man squashed under the cup is a coaster. Cool stuff!

Yet Another Gourmet Food Truck

Cimg0001

Whenever something achieves success...you can bet it's gonna get copied. Anyways, went to check out another one of these gourmet trucks "The Place LA". Nothing fancy about this one, food is decent, no line when I went, very friendly service, and seems frequented by asian women of the yelp flavor. I'm pretty happy that this one is located in Pasadena within a few minutes walk from the office.

Custom Desk Partitions Finished!

Just finished the weekend woodworking project...pretty happy with the results! Had a little bit of learning curve as it was the first time using power tools...but overall it wasn't too bad.

Now, our desks have a sense of privacy without the 'heaviness' of traditional cubicle dividers. I've always liked the look of plywood and the zen-like shoji style...so made the frame out of 1 inch ply and screen out of quarter inch milky white acrylic.

Woodworking Weekend

Cimg0191

So I've been needing some cubicle dividers for awhile now, but the options out there are ugly and expensive (not ideal for a creative studio). Anyways...decided to build my own. I pretty much have no idea what i'm doing...but have always wanted to get into woodworking and build my own furniture. Hopefully it'll turn out ok and I'll have still have all 10 fingers at the end. Stay tuned for the final product!

Break from Pasadena

Sure, Pasadena is a fantastic place to work and live...but it does get boring at times. To my shame, I've been fairly secluded to the confines of Pasadena and haven't done a good job at enjoying all the cool things LA has offer.

Anyways, over the weekend...been trying to experience the "LA life" a bit more.

Saturday, went to AGO in West Hollywood for dinner with @misseye2eye. I'll have to say...dining with an asian girl has its perks. I think restaurant staff finally get that most yelpers are asian girls (why is that anyways?...I have my theories), and they hold the power to make or break a restaurant. There was a huge line and many ppl waiting with reservations...we got seated in about 5 mins. First star sighting of the weekend, Byron Allen with his very pregnant gorgeous wife. Food was just ok. Dessert afterward at Sweet Lady Jane...that was the highlight of the night.

On Sunday, scored some bleacher seats to the Grammy red carpet event. I'll have to say, I don't really get star struck...but nonetheless, was cool to see that the people on TV are actual people. I actually got a bit weak in the knees when Lady GaGa passed by about 3 feet away and stared at me for couple seconds.

On Monday, it was DineLA week, so checked out Gordon Ramsay's Boxwood Cafe for their lunch special. Found a fly in the water, and when the waiter returned with a new water...there was another fly in there! Despite the fly situation, it was pretty good food. Definitely a change from my one dollar sign eateries. Anyways...if you ever come here...get the creme brulee...it's spectacular!

Definitely have to make it a point to go out to the westside more often.
