New Business Cards

Recently got my new batch of moo business cards. Been using the moo mini cards for awhile. Although cool, I noticed they immediately got lost by recipients due to the small size. I love these standard sized moo cards! They are gigantic and made from very thick card stock. And for someone very undecisive like me, I can of course design several front designs so I never get sick of my cards. The only wish I have is that they had a rounded corners option.

Coworking or Incubator Space?

so our company, methink, has a studio space in central pasadena that repurposed part of its office as a coworking space (see pics). if you're not familiar with coworking, in a nutshell, it's basically a community of freelancers, independent contractors, and entrepreneurs to come together and share a coop-like office environment. basically...to give a low cost office to those who are tired of running their company from home or from the local starbucks. the main reason methink seeks to foster this type of coworking community is to connect with interesting people, get productive together, and perhaps find synergy amongst the occupants (yes, its good for recruiting too).

well, we're still in the early stages of coworking here, and at this crossroads, we're wondering if coworking is the best direction/use for this space. the other option is to turn this space into an incubator space. one of the core reasons we first chose pasadena is due to the belief that there are great minds here (cal tech, art center). mix this with the fact that there are some knowledgeable seed stage investors here (pasadena angels)...this would appear to be an ideal place for a thriving incubator space. although there are much more startup resources in los angeles now, is there a dedicated incubator space in los angeles? we are busy looking into it, and it would definitely be a dream to be surrounded by an incubator-like environment. stay tuned!

My First Painting

Cimg0115

Decided to try my hand at some good old fashion oil painting yesterday. My girlfriend had these two old canvases lying around and some paint, so we thought what the heck...my be a fun craft project.

The one realization I made real quick is how much I take for granted technology (i.e. Photoshop). Like...where's the undo button on this canvas? I need my layers! What would have been a simple PS gradient took about an hour to reproduce on paint. Now I can finally appreciate why paintings and 'real' artwork costs so much. Anyways...enjoy my humble attempt at painting. I call it...drumroll pls..."Purple Mountain (that could use a little more) Majesty".

patcheung.com redesign

patcheung.com is my little personal space on the web. it basically
holds no value whatsoever, but merely exists for my own personal
amusement. i've had the domain since april 2000, and since then it's
been through many incarnations. i wish i kept records of all the
different faces of patcheung.com...but it's never been really been
that important. inspired by my back-then hero (yugop.com),
patcheung.com started its life in year 2000 as a pretty complex flash
based site (complex for those days)...then it became a photo &
restaurant blog that i custom built in php (also somewhat complex for
those days & before yelp & flickr even)...and after a couple more
iterations, i finally decided to simplify quite a bit due to the
proliferation of awesome web services that basically makes a personal
website obsolete and a pain to maintain.

i think the last iteration was a little too simple (even for my
minimalistic taste), so i just decided to update it a bit to show some
bookmarks of several web services i use, contact info, etc. anyways,
this time i just wanted to keep some record of the lifecycle of
patcheung.com, so check out the attached images. what do you
think...good update?
